January 20, 2015, Baguio City – Young Deaf learners actively participated and engaged with the NMSC team at the launch of the LIVE (Learning thru Interactive Visual Education) Program at the St. Lorenzo Ruiz Institute – Deaf Learning Resource Center (SLRI-LRC) last Monday, January 19, 2015.

SLRI-LRC students engage with Deaf Education Coordinator, Nicole Goliat at the first lesson under the LIVE Program.

The program is aimed at enhancing young Deaf Learners’ math and English skills through the use of iPads. This initiative was launched in the effort of bringing a more visual and interactive approach of learning to the young Deaf learners.

SLRI students aged 14-20 years old were the first to utilize the iPads using applications created with corresponding lesson plans specially formulated in accordance with their respective learning levels. Another partnered institution, the Baguio School for the DEAF (BSD), on the other hand will have its first run of the LIVE Program on Friday, January 23, 2015. The classes will be done weekly, where the facilitators will also be monitoring the progress of the students.

SLRI students apply mathematical procedures and concepts as Deaf Education Coordinator, Yvonne Celeste facilitates their math lesson with the use of the iPad.

On the forefront of this initiative is Program Development Manager, Ember Palma, and along with her are the Deaf Education Coordinators, Yvonne Celeste and Nicole Goliat. By the end of this program, NMSC aims for each student to have a richer understanding and application of the lessons they are taught in school, through the supplemental learning experience, which the LIVE Program provides.

The iPads serve as a visual interactive aid for young Deaf learners to enhance their learning experience.
